DONEGAL MAKES SWEET MUSIC AS IT CASTS THE FIRST VOTES IN FISCAL TREATY

first_imgIt’s not often that a voter is allowed to play a saxophone in a polling station. But then again it’s not often that a polling station is in someone’s front living room.So nobody was arguing with the lone resident of Inishfree Barry Pilcher today when he did just that. Pilcher, who has lived alone on the island for 20 years, cast his vote after presiding officer Hugh O’Donnell travelled by boat especially for the occasion.Voting on most of Donegal’s islands including Gola, Tory, Inishboffin and Inisfree has now finished while voters can continue on Arranmore until 7pm.A total of 766 people are registered to vote on Donegal’s five islands – three days ahead of everyone else in the Fiscal Treaty Referendum.Out of the 25 islanders on Gola entitled to vote, a total of 14 did so. The votes will be collected this evening and left under lock and key at Glenties Garda station.Pictured right is a Garda leaving Tory Island today after the vote.Picture courtesy of Deirdre Sweeney, Tory Hostel.DONEGAL MAKES SWEET MUSIC AS IT CASTS THE FIRST VOTES IN FISCAL TREATY was last modified: May 28th, 2012 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Barry PilcherFISCAL TREATYInishfreelast_img read more
