Moore to step up Ballydoyle rides

first_img “We’ve a good relationship with Ryan and we always have. We used Ryan more last year than we did the year before and hopefully it will be that way again this year – we’ll use him more this year than we did last year,” O’Brien told At The Races. “We’re delighted Ryan is there and he is riding for us.” O’Brien junior, meanwhile, is set to return to Flat racing at Dundalk on Wednesday, but his father is unsure how long he can go on battling his weight. He said: “Obviously nine stone has been a problem for the last two seasons and last year it was a big problem. This year he’s heavier than he was this time last year. “He’ll go gently and we’ll see what will happen. There’s no doubt he’ll come back down to the Flat gently and how far down he’ll go, we’ll wait and see. The Guineas is only just over a month away, so we’ll play it by ear for the moment. “It’s fun and enjoyment for Joseph (riding over jumps) and he loves doing it. I suppose it was me that was keeping him away all the time really. ” O’Brien jnr finished down the field on his first appearance over jumps at Limerick on the JP McManus-owned Egyptian Warrior in the Family Fun Day Rated Novice Hurdle. His mount jumped neatly and travelled well for a long way, but was a well-beaten fifth. On returning, the jockey said: “It was different, but I enjoyed it. He popped away although the ground was a bit slow for him. The multiple champion trainer revealed on Friday his son Joseph was “a little heavy” to resume Flat racing duties at the start of the season and as a result, Moore jetted back from Dubai to ride for O’Brien at the Curragh on Sunday. While the Ballydoyle handler confirmed Joseph will return to ride on the level, after having his first ride over jumps on Sunday’s card at Limerick, he admits his weight is becoming an increasingly difficult problem and Moore looks set to be used on a more regular basis. Aidan O’Brien has confirmed Ryan Moore will ride more for Ballydoyle this year than he has in previous seasons. Press Association “I’ll be back at Dundalk on Wednesday and af ter that I might ride over jumps whenever we have a few runners. I will be back riding again on the Flat.” He then left for the Curragh to ride some of the Ballydoyle top-notchers in their work after racing, including 2000 Guineas favourite Gleneagles. The race itself was a thriller as long-time leader Velocity Boy seemed to have it in the bag when the challenging Baie Des Iles fell two out, but tied up dramatically on the run-in and was caught by Rogue Trader in a dead-heat finish. last_img read more

The Blues were happy to pay wages of £250,000 a week to the wantaway Spain international, plus agents’ fees of 10% plus a signing bonus.Yet the late demands convinced the Chelsea hierarchy that Isco was more interested in the money than playing for the FA Cup winners. last_img read more

first_imgNapoli coach Ancelotti: We beat Liverpool with the long ball!by Carlos Volcanoa month agoSend to a friendShare the loveNapoli coach Carlo Ancelotti was delighted with his players for victory over Champions League opponents Liverpool.Dries Mertens converted a penalty and Fernando Llorente made the most of a Virgil van Dijk error at the Stadio San Paolo for a 2-0 result.“It’s always tough against Liverpool, from the first minute to the last. We had to sacrifice ourselves, but without losing our identity,” Ancelotti told Sky Sport Italia.“We tried a bit too hard to play it out from the back and lost some dangerous balls, while they were aggressive in their pressing.“The game was always in the balance, but I particularly appreciated the way we defended with the basics when it was still 0-0 and that’s what allowed us to have those late chances.“I want to see a team that believes in itself and its quality. I really liked the way we played when we weren’t in control. Llorente helped out, the players were tired and the first goal was from a long ball – which isn’t our usual approach, but it’s not an insult to do that sometimes. This team must know how to do everything.“We brought in important players who improve the quality level of the squad and have different characteristics to what we had before. I have to keep them motivated and that’s not easy, especially when UEFA still have this rule forcing you to keep a short bench and it’s painful sending players to the stands.”He added: “We felt confident on the second goal, it was near the end and we were a goal up. You can press high at times, not at others, it’s about maintaining your identity and also being able to do everything. I liked our quality, but also how we played ‘ugly’ when we needed to.“I asked Giovanni Di Lorenzo how many Champions League games he’d played before and he said none. Oh well, it wasn’t bad! The same goes for Alex Meret, that was his debut, as well.” About the authorCarlos VolcanoShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

Edmonton police officers wont be wearing uniforms for Pride parade

first_imgEDMONTON – Police officers will march in this year’s Edmonton Pride festival, but not in their uniforms. The Edmonton Pride Festival Society said it restricted police vehicles from participating, as well as lights and sirens in the 2017 parade after a similar move in Toronto.“Many pride organizations in other communities started talking with their marginalized members, trying to do more to include them in the conversation around Pride,” the society said in a news release. “In many communities, because police enforcement agencies were seen to make marginalized people feel unsafe, police were asked (or told) to step back and not be involved in Pride celebrations.”In 2017, Supt. Brad Doucette said the Edmonton Police Service had more work to do if the community wasn’t comfortable with a police presence. The service later met with the festival society to discuss what could be done to build bridges. As a result, both city police and Alberta RCMP have decided to walk in civilian clothing in this year’s parade.“We can highlight the individuals that are beyond the badge — the people who actually make up the Edmonton Police Service,” said Doucette. “We are individuals. We are parents, we’re grandparents, we’re siblings, we’re allies with the LGBTQ, we’re oftentimes parents of, or are members of the community itself and that gets lost with the uniform.”He said each of the 50 or so officers who participate will wear an individualized T-shirt.“We’re not putting any parameters about what any individual are going to put on their shirt,” he said. “We have people from the LGBTQ community in our service, so you may see people put that on there — that they’re gay, that they’re lesbian, that they’re married to a man or that they are the mother of a gay youth.”RCMP officers from the Edmonton area will also attend the parade out of uniform.“Participants will be wearing RCMP Pride T-shirts, as proud employees of the RCMP, in support of the LGBTQ2S+ community,” said Staff Sgt. Jeremie Landry of the RCMP.Clayton Hitchcock, who’s the community engagement committee chair for the Edmonton Pride Festival Society, said they are hopeful the initiative by the Edmonton Police Service and RCMP will help marginalized members of the community feel safer.“The members and officers who attend the parade and festival volunteer to be there,” he said. “They are often allies and members of the LGBTQ2S+ community.“Better connections between them and marginalized folks will help them bring about change within their organizations.”last_img read more

IT dept ropes in CRPF during searches against people linked to Kamal

first_imgIndore: For the pre-dawn searches conducted against people linked to MP CM Kamal Nath on Sunday, the Income Tax department had roped in the armed personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to keep a vigil. Generally, the I-T department takes the help of the local police during such operations. According to eyewitnesses, during the I-T searches conducted at the residence of Praveen Kakkad, former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Nath, in the Vijay Nagar area of the city, armed CRPF personnel were seen posted outside the house. Sources said a team of the local police was seen deployed about 200 metres from Kakkad’s house during the raid. Officials said the entire operation was carried out by the Delhi unit of the I-T department in a very secretive manner. Besides Kakkad’s house, at least five other premises were also raided, including Kakkad’s office and premises of his close aides, they added. During the operation conducted ahead of the LS polls, a huge amount of cash and several documents related to dubious investments were reportedly recovered. However, local I-T officials said they were unable to disclose the details yet. They said since the operation was carried out by the Delhi unit of the I-T department, only it could provide the official information about the recovery and seizure. Kakkad’s family is associated with a number of businesses, including hospitality. A former MP police officer, Kakkad was appointed the OSD to Nath after the Congress-led government came to power in the state last year.last_img read more

The Thunder Are Paul Georges Team Now

There’s obviously an enormous difference between playing as hot as George has for a month and doing so for an entire season. Still, his transformation could end up being noteworthy for one key reason: It’s the closest thing we’ve seen to a changing of the guard on the Thunder since Westbrook took over after Durant’s departure. For years, Westbrook critics have suggested that he’d give his teams a better chance to win by taking a step back. More often than not, he ignored these voices. And once he had the spotlight to himself, he broke an NBA record for the highest single-season usage rate while also averaging a triple-double over a full season — and that 2016-17 OKC team finished sixth in the West and lost in the first round of the playoffs. Westbrook tried playing more unselfishly last season, though that largely seemed to backfire. But it seems to be working now.In the midst of the worst shooting season2From the standpoint of true shooting percentage. Curiously, his free-throw percentage has also tumbled to a career low. of his career, the 30-year-old Westbrook has eased his foot off the pedal during the team’s surge. He has taken 19.4 shots per contest this season, his fewest since the 2015-16 campaign. And during Oklahoma City’s 12-game hot streak, Westbrook attempted just 17 shots per night. (Prior to that, he was taking a little more than 20 shots per game.)Westbrook still has considerable value. He continues to be a force when he bends defenses, and he’s finishing at the rim more efficiently than ever. His triple-double Monday marked his 10th straight, giving him the longest single-season stretch in NBA history. If he keeps up his current pace, this would be Westbrook’s third consecutive season averaging a triple-double.But make no mistake: George is leading this team. And it’s been that way all year.Because Westbrook missed the start of the season, when he was coming off a late-offseason arthroscopic procedure on his knee, George was the club’s lone workhorse at times to begin the year. That was something he rarely enjoyed last season, when the offense generally saw George, Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony take turns shooting.Somewhat stunningly, at this rate, George is already just 10 games or so away from eclipsing his shot attempt total from last season. His shot chart this season looks essentially the same as last year’s, but the clarity about his role seems to have helped his game immensely. George, perhaps more comfortable with Westbrook and the team now, is playing as if he realizes that it’s generally a good thing for him to take the reins on offense. So is George’s unreal stretch enough to propel him to the top of the MVP race? One factor in his favor is that he’s elite on both ends of the floor. The Thunder rank among the top-3 defenses — despite defensive specialist Andre Roberson not having played a minute all season — largely because of George, who is leading the league in steals and loose balls recovered while ranking second in deflections. George has certainly pieced together a solid defensive player of the year candidacy. But he has two big obstacles in his MVP path. Giannis Antetokounmpo — who averages 27 points, nearly 13 boards and 6 assists per game while playing great defense — has powered the Bucks to the NBA’s best record. And while offensive juggernaut James Harden is often seen as a defensive lightweight, his metrics — 2.2 steals per game and a league-leading 209 deflections — compare favorably with George’s.But George may care more about his team’s fortunes than his individual accolades. FiveThirtyEight’s projection model views Oklahoma City as a legitimate challenger to the Warriors in the West. While Golden State is still a massive favorite, the projections show considerable respect to the Thunder, giving them an 11 percent probability to win the NBA championship — a figure that’s not far off the Raptors and Bucks, despite those two playing in the less competitive Eastern Conference. However you slice it, the fact that Oklahoma City has believers — whether they’re rooted in computer algorithms or actual fans — is a credit to George’s unbelievable play as of late.Check out our latest NBA predictions. If there’s a club that wishes it could fast-forward through the All-Star break, it would be the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are the NBA’s hottest team and are winners of 11 of their past 12 contests.Russell Westbrook is in the middle of a historic triple-double run. The team, which couldn’t hit a 3-point shot for the first month of the season, now can’t miss from outside — and has put itself firmly in contention for a top-two seed in the loaded Western Conference. But the biggest development of late has been Paul George playing the best basketball of his life, morphing from a trusty sidekick into the Thunder’s 2013-14 MVP version of Kevin Durant. That isn’t an exaggeration. Durant racked up 40.8 points, 9.4 boards and 7 assists per 100 possessions on a lofty 63.5 true shooting percentage during his dominant campaign. Since Jan. 17, George has logged 41.9 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists per 100 possessions on 67.9 true shooting, boasting better assist-to-turnover and steals rates than Durant had in 2013-14.1According to Basketball-Reference.com’s Game Score metric, which calculates how well someone played by analyzing his entire stat line each night, George has averaged a 29.1 Game Score during this recent hot streak. By comparison, Durant’s average Game Score during his MVP season was 24.9. read more
