Argentina snatch victory from France with late try in Cordoba

first_imgThursday Jun 21, 2012 Argentina snatch victory from France with late try in Cordoba Argentina came from behind to snatch a late 23-20 win in their first Test against France in Cordoba on Saturday. It was the South American’s second win in succession, following on from their beating of Italy in San Juan a week prior. As you should know by now, Argentina will be joining the extended Tri Nations this year, as New Zealand, South Africa, and Australia get a new challenge as the Rugby Championship takes flight. With that in mind, Argentina’s preperation is well timed and they’re looking good value for their current 6th in the world position on the official IRB World Rankings. They scored two tries against France, the first of which came from a well taken intercept by Belisario Agulla. Felipe Contepomi kicked 13 points, and with a few minutes left in the match, a turnover allowed them to streak down field, as winger Manuel Montero collected a kick ahead for the match winning try.France haven’t won a match in Argentina since 1998, but will get another shot at it next week when the two sides meet in their second, and final, Test in Tucuman. They do however have some key players missing, including Thierry Dusautoir and Imanol Harinordoquy, who are both being rested.Argentina have made more changes to their team, as they continue to experiment ahead of the aforementioned Rugby Championship. Argentina play their first game in the Rugby Championship, away against South Africa, on August 18th.Below are highlights of the game (in Spanish), and you can watch the full match hereADVERTISEMENT Posted By: rugbydump Share Send Thanks Sorry there has been an error Related Articles 81 WEEKS AGO scottish prop saves fire victim 84 WEEKS AGO New Rugby X tournament insane 112 WEEKS AGO Vunipola stands by his comments supporting… From the WebThis Video Will Soon Be Banned. Local doula discusses pregnancy concerns during COVID-19 pandemic

first_img(WBNG) — Between risking contacting COVID-19 and not having access to the necessary support during delivery, local women are looking at other options for giving birth. Doulas provide support in a variety of ways to mothers throughout every step of their pregnancy, including helping moms decide where they want to give birth. For more information on resources for home births, visit some of the links below: “I think the fear of the hospital, and that being the driving factor is really worrisome. Most outcomes are great, and normal, and that’s wonderful, obviously it’s unpredictable,” said Sivers. The CDC reports about one percent of all births in the United States happen at home. However, one local doula says she’s noticed an increased interest in home births. For some, the stress of being pregnant during a pandemic may pose health issues for mothers in the long-term. Sivers says she’s an advocate for home births, having had one herself. However, she says deciding where to have a baby is not a decision that should be made lightly. “We’re going to see a huge change somehow, hopefully I would love to see it for the better, in maternal mental health, during the pregnancy and postpartum,” said Sivers. “Every once in awhile, I’ll get an email or a call, or something on social media, asking about resources for home birth midwives. Just the amount since this pandemic is probably more than I’ve gotten in the past three years in business,” said Nicole Sivers, owner of Doulas of Broome County. “Some are very pregnant already, so it’s not something they would’ve thought about before everything that’s going on,” said Sivers. Pakistani cricket legend extends invite to India for bilateral series: It’s time they sorted…

Powered by Firework There has always been a bitter relation between the Indian and Pakistan cricket team. The historical rivals have often went against one another on verbal tussles, and with the recent comments made by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) do declare India as ‘unsafe’, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took the decision not to participate in the upcoming Asia Cup hosted in Pakistan. Amongst all the turmoil between the neighbouring nations, Pakistani cricketing icon Shahid Afridi speaks up on positive notions.Advertisement Image Courtesy: ANISince Pakistan’s participation in the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup hosted by India, the two haven’t stepped foot on each others’ soil for any international series. Even the 2018 Asia Cup had to be shifted from India to Dubai, as PCB were unwilling to send their cricketers to India.Pakistan, while being under a ban from ICC for ten years following the Lahore attack, have been successful on conducting the Pakistan Super League (PSL) since 2015. They had their first home series after a decade against Sri Lanka following the ban lift in 2019, and are currently hosting the T20 series against Bangladesh.Advertisement Speaking to Gulf News, Shahid Afridi stated that he is expecting the Indian Cricket Team to have a tour of his country.“The whole of PSL being held in Pakistan is a good message for all countries, as also Bangladesh touring and playing even Test cricket, shows that our security situation is good. I am waiting for India to come to Pakistan and play a series,” Afridi said in the interview.Advertisement While the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) ruled out the possibility of a neutral venue in this Asia Cup, the former skipper emphasised on a joint hosting of the tournament, without any other involvement in the matter. The 39 year old continued: “The Asia Cup should be held with both India and Pakistan in it. It’s time Pakistan and India sat together and sorted out their problems without involving any third country.”“They have many issues and once they sit together, it can be sorted but Asia Cup held anywhere should have India and Pakistan playing in the event.” Afridi added. Also read-Shahid Afridi narrates the time he damaged his TV after his daughter mimicked a Hindu ritualBCCI official reveals what will happen if Pakistan hosts Asia Cup Advertisementlast_img read more

FINNEGANS WAKE ROLLS LATE TO TAKE GRADE II, $200,000 SAN GABRIEL STAKES BY ONE LENGTH UNDER ESPINOZA; MILLER-TRAINED VET GETS 1 1/8 MILES ON TURF IN 1:48.38 & NOTCHES HIS SECOND STAKES WIN IN-A-ROW

first_imgMASSIVE PICK 5 CARRYOVER OF $392,388 & PICK SIX CARRYOVER OF $87,422 INTO SUNDAY,       TOTAL POOLS ON SUNDAY EXPECTED TO EXCEED $2 MILLION & $500,000, RESPECTIVELY ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 3, 2015)–Ridden patiently by Victor Espinoza, long-fused Finnegans Wake wheeled five-wide turning for home and bounded to a one length win in Saturday’s Grade II, $200,000 San Gabriel Stakes, getting 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:48.38. Trained by Peter Miller, the 6-year-old Kentucky-bred horse by Powerscourt notched his second consecutive stakes win, as he came off a neck victory in the Grade II, 1 ½ miles Hollywood Turf Cup at Del Mar Nov. 27.“I thought today was going to be too short for him, but obviously it wasn’t,” said Espinoza. “He’s getting good. I thought they would go slower up front, but there was still a good pace. I wanted to be closer to the front, but not too close.“He was a little confused because of (the shorter distance) so I think he sat back further than usual because of that. He went nice and comfortably which worked out well, but I had to encourage him a bit to get into the race. I had to ask him early because he’s big and he doesn’t have a ton of speed.”Owned by Donegal Racing and Rockingham Ranch, Finnegans Wake, who prevailed in a field of eight older horses, improved his overall race record to 26-5-3-3, and with the winner’s share of $120,000, increased his earnings to $945,375.“He eats well and he’s been training very well, so I felt like he would run his race,” said Miller. “Whether he could get up going a mile and an eighth was the big question, Victor gave him a super ride.“We’ll look at all our options including maybe even Dubai. The horse trains well on dirt and he ran well in the Clark (Grade I, 1 1/8 miles at Churchill Downs on Nov. 29, 2013), so perhaps even the Santa Anita Handicap (Grade I, 1 ¼ miles on March 7). I don’t know. I’ve got to get with the owners, enjoy this for now and maybe next week set up a game plan.”Fractions on the race, which were set by eventual last place finisher Edge of Reality, were 24.60, 48.80, 1:12.52 and 1:36.65.Ridden by Drayden Van Dyke, runner-up Patrioticandproud was inside the winner into and around the far turn, finally got out a furlong from home and was gaining ground late to finish three quarters of a lengths in front of Power Ped. Off at 13-1, Patrioticandproud paid $11.20 and $5.20.“It got a little congested turning for home so I had to wait for a hole to open up,” said Van Dyke, who is considered a front-runner to be voted America’s Eclipse Award winning Apprentice Jockey for 2014. “One never did, so I had to go outside the winner eventually. I think if I could have let him get a run under him a bit sooner it would have been closer. I think it would have been a horse race for sure, but it didn’t happen.”Off at 26-1, Power Ped, with Tyler Baze up, paid $7.00 to show. With longshots the order of the day on Saturday, there is a massive carryover into Sunday’s 50 cent Pick 5 of $392,388, and the expectation that Sunday’s total Pick 5 pool will exceed $2 million. There is also a Pick Six carryover of $87,422, and it’s expected the total Pick Six pool on Sunday will exceed $500,000.First post time for a nine-race card Sunday is at 12:30 p.m. The Pick 5 is comprised of the first five races and the Pick Six covers the final six on the program. The Numbers Foundation adds up

first_imgEmmanuel Khumalo’s Numbers Foundation is a haven for pupils needing extra lessons in maths, science and accounting in KwaMashu“You too can be a hero, you do not have to have money, drive the biggest car, be famous or know people in high places; if you just act now, you can do or bring a lot of change into your life by helping those lives around you and no matter whatever happens, never stop dreaming and never let others tell you you can never be, because they could not be,” says Emmanuel Khumalo, founder of the Numbers Foundation.Khumalo (18), from KwaZulu-Natal, is passionate about bringing people together using education, having been approached to tutor Grade 8 pupils in mathematics.“I was in Grade 11 then and a group of Grade 8 learners came to me asking for help; as a senior who has already been there, I helped them without any problems. They then regularly came to me and the numbers started growing so I spoke to my English educator to use her classroom during breaks for my lessons, and she agreed because she knew my work and she believed in me too,” he said.Khumalo completed his schooling in 2012, passing his matric with academic excellence awards in English First Additional Language and Life Orientation. The next year, he started the Numbers Foundation. “I established the Numbers Foundation in 2013 and under the foundation I started the Numbers Education Club (NEC); at first I worked alone but I have formed a group … that assist me and they have taken the role of office bearers.”THE NUMBERS FOUNDATIONThe Numbers Foundation is a non-profit organisation offering two programmes; the Numbers Education Club (NEC), at Thandukwazi Primary School in KwaMashu, and Friends of Friends (FOF).NUMBERS EDUCATION CLUBThe NEC offers after-school lessons in mathematics, physical science, and life sciences for pupils from Grade 8 to Grade 12, and will soon include lessons in accounting.Children from KwaMashu, Emlandweni, Ezilwaneni and Enkanyisweni attend the classes. Some 175 children have attended the NEC since its establishment, with all students successfully improving their pass rates.Khumalo runs NEC with five friends; Fezeka Ngetho, Bongekile Zulu, Nelisiwe Damane, Snegugu Mdletshe and Philile Masondo.FRIENDS OF FRIENDSKhumalo started the Friends of Friends project in 2013 and says, “We plan to take this project to schools, communities and every other that place that we can go to throughout the country and if possible the world as a whole. The FOF project offers counselling for people, especially the youth that find themselves in need of someone to talk to.”Khumalo has no counselling training, but aims to inspire young people to fight against violence, drug abuse, discrimination and bullying, and rather encourage each other to study and work hard, to avoid a life of crime.KRAZIFIZIXKhumalo, through the NEC, also works with life coach and teacher, Bishop Komolafe Busuyi, who runs the Krazifizix Educational Club, which provides extra lessons to high school pupils.“I have worked on Krazifizix Educational Club, and that was very amazing, the experience that I got, standing in front of more than 700 learners and talking really helped built my confidence,” says Khumalo. The clubs are negotiating a partnership to reach some 400 pupils, especially grades 8 to 12, by the end of 2014.KHUMALO’S KUDOSKhumalo’s passion has taken him from KwaMashu to the airwaves and gained him recognition for his motivating spirit. In June 2011, he volunteered at Inanda 88.4 FM, to host Sunday youth show Teen Expression, with DJ Mbali Zwane for six months. In September 2013 he was nominated as a Hero of the Month by local values organisation LeadSA, and received a commendation from First National Bank through its You Can Help campaign.“With every small experience and day that I have lived, I have learned to appreciate life and many of my experiences have made me stronger and taught me to always be the best I can be no matter whatever happens,” says Khumalo. He says youngsters should “never give in to what people have to say”. He says he ignores those who “bring me down or make me lose faith; I have learned to protect my dreams and to encourage and help those who dream too.”He adds; “Having a vision, that does it for me. I’m inspired to do great, because I know what it is that I want in life, and I want to go out there and grab it all. People who have done great and those that are doing great, keep me believing that there are such great people who sacrifice a part of their dream to help others and set an example for all of us.”Khumalo dreams of becoming a doctor; “I still am pursuing my dream of being a doctor; in June this year I will start my studies at UNISA and will study a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics and Zoology stream), and after my degree, I will then go on to study towards a GEMP (Graduate Entry Medical Programme) at Wits University.”PLAY YOUR PARTTo learn more about the Numbers Foundation visit www.numberssa.blogspot.com, or email [email protected]last_img read more
