Dr Peter Warburton, author of the report, said that the boom decade between 1997-2007 had not benefited workless households. Reducing the number of workless households by reforming the benefits system could have a major impact on growth, according to the report. It estimates that a 10 per cent drop in the number of workless households would equate to at least a one per cent increase in GDP.“Increasing work participation is important not just for the families involved, but also… the British economy,” said CPS director Jill Kirby.
